Similar in appearance to
the highly regarded daylily ‘Custard Candy’, this
cultivar offers a higher bud count on more well-branched
scapes, fragrant blossoms, and a cookie cutter perfect
flower form.
In early midseason, a
profusion of 3", creamy butter yellow, diamond dusted
flowers with a well-defined, narrow, wine purple eye are
produced atop 4-5 way branched scapes. Each and
every blossom has a perfect rounded form with ruffled,
recurved tepals. Though it is not officially
classified as a rebloomer, this daylily reblooms for us
in Michigan.
The broadly arching
foliage forms a strong, vigorous clump in the
landscape.
Dormant tetraploid.

Considered by daylily
expert Arthur Kroll to be one of the very best new
yellow daylilies available.
Huge 6-7”, cheerful
bright lemon yellow blossoms open wide to reveal the
vibrant green throat. The nicely ruffled petals
are of very heavy substance.
This is a highly
fragrant daylily that is registered as both nocturnal
and an extended bloomer, meaning the flowers open the
afternoon before and remain open for at least 16hrs.
Each scape carries 20+
buds in late July, delivering a floriferous and showy
garden performance.
Dormant tetraploid.

In the ground, this daylily typically starts to
bloom in mid-June which is several weeks earlier than
most cultivars. Plants can rebloom up to 4 times per
year, showing nearly 100 days of color in zone 6.
EARLYBIRD CARDINAL™
produces 4” wide, watermelon red flowers with a pie
crust edge and chartreuse throat. It is documented to
produce 6 or more fans per season compared to 2-3 fans
produced on an average daylily. It also tends to produce
more than one flower scape per fan, so the plants
quickly grow to form a highly floriferous, robust clump.
This is a valuable trait for landscapers, retailers, and
home gardeners alike who all enjoy a quick return on
their investment.
